-kind of- open letter to the @lufthansa pilots,

Without a doubt, you have a right to demonstrate, but I’am ashamed for your behavior. Currently LH has to bear the 14th strike wave, since 2012, over your decision to rule the companies decisions for the future. I can understand that its hard to make sacrifices, but you all should understand that if you go on with this self destructive behavior, and if LH goes on paying everyone the way they do, there will be no Lufthansa to fly for in a few years time. And you all now that. I think what is most disturbing is the fact that a pilot already earns up to 225.000€ a year, and that you are asking for 22%(!) more by April 2017. Additionally you are getting a pension payed by the German pension bank and a Lufthansa pension, one of the last companies to have this system. In times of  a minimum wage of 8,50€ in Germany you should be just fine with your paycheck. But what really triggered me is the interview with Thomas von Sturm, who should be ashamed to call himself a Lufthansa pilot, where he openly states that „If we have to we can go on with this for five years“ and says that he hopes (!!) that they can damage Lufthansas reputation that much, that the company will have to accept there conditions.
So, Thomas, if its that what you want namely bleeding out the company you work for, which is one of Germanys most reputable ones, go on you’re doing great so far! I hope you and your colleagues will learn that what they have with Lufthansa is more than lucky, otherwise start writing an application to Ryanair soon, they need a lot of pilots in their new planes!

best regards Nick Thestorf.

Air Berlin - ?

Fateful days for Germany’s second largest carrier. This week is a week of decisions for Air Berlin as they are in talks with Lufthansa to give up all routes that don’t take off from Berlin and Düsseldorf. This would result in AB “wet leasing” 40 planes to LH, for Eurowings. Meanwhile Etihad, one of the biggest shareholders of AB, is trying to sell Niki, AB’s Austrian low cost airline, to Tuifly (+ the 737s operated by Tuifly currently leased to AB) to create a new leisure airline. This would leave AB with just 70 planes and two hubs, additionally AB will have to cut their personnel by half. Since 2008 AB has accumulated about 1.5 billion € debt. Personally I hope AB is going to survive this as I always enjoyed travelling with them, and my first ever flight was with them.

Enjoy them while you can! Iran Air, beloved for their A310s and A300s, is expecting delivery of its first Airbus aircrafts this year, as the US Office of Foreign Assets Controls has given green light for Airbus to deliver its first planes to Iran, expectedly A320s and A330s. Background to this is that Airbus jets contain more than 10% of US made parts. Iran Air apart from that is expecting up to 40 ATR72s, 45 A320ceos and neos, 45 A330ceos and neos, 16 A350s and 12 A380s. But there’s no need for Boeing to be sad as they ordered 35 737NGs, 40 737MAXs, 15 777-300ERs, 15 777-9Xs and (!) 4 747-8is (!). That’s more than 260 planes on order, with the current fleet size being 43 these are surely ambitious plans and time will tell how many of these planes will make it to final assembly.
